CPC Driver Training

As from September 2008 if you already hold a PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) licence and wish to continue driving on the road after 2013 or As from September 2009 if you already hold an LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) licence and wish to continue driving professionally on the road after 2014, you will be required by law to undergo 35 hours of periodic training before the end of those 5 years.

If you do not hold a PCV or LGV licence already you will have to undergo initial qualification in addition to obtaining your driving licence. Combined with the current theory and practical driving tests new drivers will have to complete a theory test of 100 multiple choice questions and 19 hazard perception clips lasting 2 ½ hours. There will be a second theory test comprising of a case study lasting 1 ½ hours and 2 practical tests. The first is the 1 hour 15 min driving test, the second will involve a ½ hour non-driving test to be completed at the test centre.

The 35 hours periodic training is broken down in to 5 x 7 hour modules:

  • Module 1- Drivers Hours and Tachographs
  • Module 2- Safe Vehicle Operations and Loading
  • Module 3- Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving 
  • Module 4- Health and Safety in Transport Operations
  • Module 5- Efficient and Secure Transport Operations (Customer care)

If you haven’t had 35 hours periodic training logged with the DSA by September 2013 (PCV) 2014 (LGV) you will no longer be able to legally drive professionally on the roads.

Transafe Training Ltd are JAUPT (Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training) approved to deliver all modules at any one of our training centres or on customer premises (dependant on vehicles/ equipment). Courses will be held Monday to Friday 08.30 – 16.30. The training can be taken as a block of one week (35 hours) or one day (7 hour session) per year over the 5 year cycle.
